From 17 – 19 November 2009 the International Forum on ASEM Water Resources Management & Final Conference of ASEMWaterNet was hosted by China Hunan Provincial Science & Technology Department at Mingcheng International Hotel, Changsha.
The main objective of the Coordination Action ASEM WaterNet is to contribute to the commitments of the EU Water Initiative and the Millennium Development Goals (MDG), mainly concerning the sustainable access to safe drinking water, global partnerships and development, the environmental sustainability, by building and promoting a multi-stakeholder and scientific platform on water resources management.
The platform mobilizes the individual strengths of 18 ASEM (Asia Europe Meeting) partner countries, interacts with existing networks, and promotes interdisciplinary activities between public authorities, scientific community, private sector and civil society.
Through several types of coordinating activities, the 53 participating organizations gather their experiences on river basin approach; water use efficiency in agriculture; erosion, flash floods and floods; pollution and water quality and water governance. Through this conference, the participating organizations exchange ideas and create an open cooperation between equal partners to promote on water management issues.
WP contributes to this conference through a presentation of Prof. Dr. Hans Bossert on a scientific research study on - - Water Governance Fact Sheets - - that describe the status of Good Water Governance in Vietnam. These Fact Sheets, or Water Cards, enable monitoring of the efficiency of Water Governance through the development of a set of evaluation criteria that enable a quantitative and qualitative description of important aspects of good governance.
